THE COURT HOUSE – BERWICK UPON TWEED
Built in 1850 as grand court and jail, this building only operated for its intended use for 50 years before being handed over to local council where it was left to ruin until acquired by GMC in 2016.
After a lengthy planning process on this grade 2 listed building within the Berwick conservation area. The scheme for five new properties; four within the main building and a first floor apartment in the barn to the rear.
The works began with removing 100 years of fittings and recycling with our partners. Then making good on alternations carried out by the previous owner and then the creation of our own alternations and sub-divisions to the main building.
New services; gas, electric, water, drainage and telecoms connections were all provided. The entire roof was replaced and the front façade received a delicate wash down.
New double glazed windows were fitted throughout with the exception of the bay windows which were refurbished by the joiners with working shutters.
With the structure ready the internal fit out began with luxury in mind!
