GMC are delighted to complete on the acquisition of Spittal Quay, in Spittal. This historic site has been empty since its last tenant, company Tarmac Limited terminated their lease in 2008.

From 1979 the Site was operated by Tilling Construction services limited exporting aggregate via 2 huge Silos which fed a conveyor to load cargo ships.

Before this we know that Berwick Harbour commission took possession of the site in June 1914. Our Design team are currently researching the history of the site and the Quay to see if we can incorporate some this into the design of the proposed development.

Our acquisition department have spent the last 6 months negotiating the purchase of the site and recently secured posititve pre-planning application advice from Northumberland Country Council for residential development on site. Our design team are now focusing on market research and seeing where this can fit in with the programme of developments GMC are offering over the next 5 years.

Spittal Quay

This is for sure a most exciting site to develop and we are hoping to design in some amazing features for the property owners to enjoy. We are commissioning a structural survey of the existing Jetty to establish the structural integrity. The deck is in poor condition and will require replacing if the rest of the structure is viable to repair for the properties to enjoy. This may include a small craft hoist for owners to launch their own small vessel direct from their own private Quay.

The panoramic views from the site are one of a kind with up-close entertainment as the local all-weather lifeboat launching down the 40ft slip way, views across the sand bar to Spittal point or over the river to the historic Elizabethan town walls of Berwick upon tweed. While enjoying the peaceful traffic of the Tweed from the local sailing club based 500ft away to the gentle tankers rolling into the Tweed dock.
